Hospice Memorial

Hi there it’s been a busy couple of weeks. I have met so many new friends and I really think that the time I spend with them brings them happiness.

A few weeks back our hospice held it’s annual memorial. They invite the families of those patients that have past to come and celebrate their lives. It was such a wonderful experience to be involved this year. As the Eric, our chaplain, spoke I wandered through the crowd stopping when I felt someone needed a little extra support or a friend.

This is not a sad occasion but for many who have not had a chance to grieve or feel that they should no longer be grieving it gives them a safe place to show their emotions.

So many of the families were hugging the nurses and aides and talking to them like old friends, showing pictures of their loved ones and even pictures of new family members. The room was filled with a mix of emotions. I left the memorial with a greater appreciation for what our hospice team does. They are so much more than nurses and aides. They are caregivers in every sense of the word.

HELP NEEDED!!!

Are you a loving dog? Do you play well with others (including cats)? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of senior citizens in the community? Then I have an opportunity for you! We are looking for Pet Therapy dogs to visit our Hospice patients. It’s a small time commitment, a few hours a week.

I love being a therapy dog for Nurses & Company. It is so fulfilling knowing that I am making someone’s life a little brighter just by stopping by for a visit. It is because I love it so much that I am putting out a call to all my canine friends out there. If you have ever thought of becoming a therapy dog we would love to have you join us.

Becoming a Certified Therapy Dog is easy in fact there are 2 classes each month in the St. Louis/St. Charles area. You can get more details from the therapy dog international web site http://www.tdi-dog.org/HowToJoinUpcomingTests.aspx. Both my brother Linus and I have gone through the test and it was a breeze.

Mom says I need to be nice and invite cats too.

Our Hospice patients are amazing and they would love to meet you. I look forward to working with you!
